How we are making places healthier
We have developed the Suffolk Healthy Homes programme to improve living conditions, reduce health inequalities and promote better health across the county. We are focussing on two main areas:
- Improving housing quality – especially dealing with damp and mould
- Tackling the cost of living and fuel poverty
What do we offer?
We have a team of qualified field officers who can visit homes and help residents with:
- A home energy survey to assess what help is needed
- Access to damp treatment and decluttering
- Help with applications for retro-fitting upgrades such as:
- Air source heat pumps
- Loft/cavity wall/internal/external insulation
- Solar panels
- Income maximisation – to make sure all applicable benefits are being claimed
- Loan heaters – when current heating is insufficient/not working
- Carbon Monoxide monitors to make sure appliances are operating at a safe level
- Winter warmth packs to help keep cosy at home
- Referrals to other system partners including:
- Befriending services
- Social prescribers
- Fire safety officers
- Small-scale adaptations such as grab rails and threshold levelling
To deliver these improvements we are working with:
- Suffolk Public Health and Communities (Suffolk County Council)
- Warm Homes Healthy People
- Safe Suffolk Renters
- Stepping Home
- GP surgeries
- NHS Integrated Care Systems
- Voluntary Sector partners
- Adult Social Care
- Suffolk Fire Service
- National Energy Action (NEA)
